How does an undergrad student ask a company if they offer internships?

If you want to ask this question, then I would suggest using a form of LinkedIn or Facebook as it is the best way to get in touch with employers. You can also use some search engines like Google and Bing to find companies that are hiring interns.
Another way you can do this is by asking your friends if they know any companies that are hiring interns. They will be able to refer you to the right places where you can apply for an internship.

Honestly, if they don’t have an internship live on their personal site or on some other job board, then chances are they either do not offer internships or the recruiting season is currently not open at the moment.

If you’re at a career fair though you’re often going to have a mix of companies seeking full-time, interns or both. In this case, absolutely ask one of the recruiters about their availability and types of positions. Be polite and make those network connections with the recruiters, even if they currently do not offer an internship. Having contacts with recruiters will come in handy once you’re ready to enter the industry as a full-time employee down the road.

There is an exception to what I have mentioned above. I have seen the rare occurrence of companies being so impressed with a student’s resume/work experience that they will allow for a special employment setup where the student is allowed to work as a part-time employee (basically a co-op is created) while the student is still in school. This just goes to show that a solid resume and impeccable communication skills are the primary step to landing that job you’re interested in.

First, you need to be updated to apply, which means research about the company. It would clarify your objectives that why do you want to join the particular company or what type of work experience you are seeking for. Once you are clear with what and why you are doing this, things become simpler. Now find out who you need to write in order to ask for the offeror to apply. Now, you can begin with basic letter writing skills. Address the person formally and begin by introducing yourself by highlighting your skills, experience, and qualifications. Then, how did you find them along with the qualities you were looking for in any company and how it matches your search. Now, correlate your skills and experience with the company’s objective and how you can be useful for them. Close the letter by thanking them. Include the information about your whereabouts and I don’t find any need to enclose any certificate or resume unless they ask for or you are replying to any advertisement. All the best.
