Project Description

Support Sustainability Strategic Planning Initiative with a main focus of updating KSC’s Sustainability Roadmap. The overall goal of this roadmap is to document the center’s progress toward each goal as defined in the current administration’s executive order 14057 “Catalyzing Clean Energy Industries and Jobs through Federal Sustainability” and forthcoming implementing instructions. Roadmap to build upon previous and current sustainability plans, goals, initiatives, and progress.

3. Onsite – Rotorcraft Aeromechanics

The Aeromechanics Branch has numerous intern projects for aeromechanics technology solutions that will enable the development of vertical flight vehicles, both piloted and uninhabited, providing unlimited mobility in three dimensions for terrestrial and planetary science applications. Innovative and revolutionary ideas for vertical-flight vehicle technologies are developed, enhanced, analyzed, demonstrated, and assessed using advanced modeling, ground-based facilities, simulation, and flight as appropriate. Intern projects address all aspects of vertical lift aircraft and operations which directly influence the vehicle’s performance

4. EPIC Internship – Parachute Fabric Testing

** Please note this is a full-time (40hrs/week), in-person-only opportunity held at NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center, Edwards AFB, CA.

In this internship, you will create a disk test setup for the EPIC team to evaluate strain gauges in a 3D strain state on the parachute fabric. This could include: designing the test equipment in SolidWorks, interfacing with the machine shop to build your design, assembling the test equipment, and performing tests to verify that the setup is operational.

You will have the chance to develop skills and gain experience in: mechanical design, drawing control, experimental test setups, test development, procedure writing, test safety, pressure systems, textile testing, and oral and written communication.

5. Internship Program Project Management

The Internship Project Management Support Intern will work in the NASA Glenn Research Center Office of STEM Engagement and serve as support for the execution of the internship project.

The Intern will provide administrative and logistical support for the Internship Project including providing help desk support to applicants, interns, fellows, and mentors; supporting the facilitation of virtual intern events and tours; and supporting day-to-day administrative tasks. This position will provide opportunities to gain and improve leadership, project management, planning, coordination, and communication skills through work as part of the internship project team.

The intern will be assigned the following responsibilities:

  1. Assist with virtual events for interns,
  2. Assist with the preparation of project administrative documents,
  3. Contribute to the development and execution of intern recruitment and outreach efforts,
  4. Provide help desk support to applicants, interns, fellows, and mentors,
  5. Support social media usage, and 6. Other duties as assigned.
